ABS filament (Acrylonitril Butadieen Styreen)
ABS filament has the least chance of clogging and is one of the easiest materials to print with, from the hot end / extruder point of view. However, it is a bit more difficult to treat afterwards. After printing, it shrinks slightly when it cools down. It is therefore an absolute must to print on a heated bed, and preferably within an enclosed-case printer. At the very least, print in a room that is not too cold.
The Print difficulty is moderate. Some fine-tuning of bed and nozzle temperature may be required.
Temperature: Print at 220-250 ºC with a heated bed of 90 ºC or more.
When to choose ABS ?
- ABS is great for wearables due to its strength and resilience.
- Furthermore, for objects that may fall or need to be able to withstand a blow and 3D objects that are used in warm environments.
- Think of handles, car phone holders, Phone cases, toys, bracelets and rings.
- In short: ABS is very suitable for most objects.
When not to choose ABS filament?
- When your 3D printer does not have a heated bed.
- If you want to print large objects and cannot protect them from wind or low ambient temperature; can split or crack ABS .
- If you cannot ventilate the room properly, the smell will be somewhat irritating and even harmful.
