PETG 3D Printer Filament

PETG filament is a robust and flexible filament ideal for 3D printing. PETG, an abbreviation for polyethylene terephthalate glycol, is a modified version of PET, which you may know from PET bottles. This material offers unique properties that make it highly suitable for 3D printing applications.

What is PETG 3D Filament?

PETG, an improved variant of PET, has fewer of the disadvantages found in PET, such as crystallization during slow cooling that makes it partly opaque. The addition of glycol prevents this crystallization, keeps the material transparent, and lowers the melting temperature. The "G" in PETG stands for "glycol-modified".

What is the Origin of PETG?

Polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, is the most used plastic worldwide, applied in many products such as bottles and clothing, but also in technical processes. PETG thus originates from a material that is ubiquitous in our daily lives.

What are the Advantages of PETG?

The choice for PETG in 3D printing comes from its many advantages: high durability, flexibility, and resistance to chemicals. The addition of glycol eliminates the brittleness of PET and prevents it from crystallizing, making PETG strong and reliable for various applications. It offers the temperature resistance and strength of ABS, with the reliability of PLA, making PETG easy to print.

What are the Characteristics of PETG?

  • Easy to print
  • Excellent layer adhesion
  • Maintains clarity and transparency
  • Strong and flexible
  • No odor during printing
  • Low shrinkage and does not absorb water
  • Resistant to chemicals
  • Suitable for a wide range of applications

What are Tips for printing with PETG?

  • Use the correct temperature: 210 to 250 degrees Celsius for the extruder, and 80 to 100 degrees Celsius for the platform.
  • Use a cooling fan after the first two layers for detailed prints without imperfections.
  • Ensure a good first layer by correctly calibrating the print bed.
  • The recommended print speed is between 60 and 100 mm per second.
  • Keep the nozzle clean to prevent blobs that can affect the final result.

Why choose PETG at TM3D?

TM3D offers a wide range of PETG colors at an excellent price-quality ratio. The material is user-friendly, durable, and recyclable, with good impact resistance and temperature resistance.
